Northern Stage’s Chicago is about as spectacular a musical one is likely to see in Vermont. But the production…enjoys a quality seldom seen in musicals anywhere: imagination. The action is bawdy and fast paced; the setting is spectacularly colorful; and the music and dancing are effervescent. Gallagher’s choreography, only loosely based on the Fosse original, was fresh, energetic, and irresistible. With Northern Stage’s intimacy, it’s hard to imagine the Broadway production being this much fun.
Northern Stage’s current production of Chicago blends the elements together triumphantly to create a genuine razzle-dazzle evening of spectacle and class. The choreography is electric.
An exciting, dazzling, super-charged version of Chicago is Northern Stage’s final production of the 2012 season. The cast has been reduced to just ten actors, and the result is a fast-paced, intense show that flashes by like summer lightning, leaving vivid after images.
